Children and Young People

Counselling and Wellbeing Support for Children and Young People

We are passionate about tackling the root causes of issues and provide an outstanding service to build resilience in young people rather than a quick fix.

At Beacon we take pride in the quality and effectiveness of our services and hold a track record and 38+ years experience of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.

Our Children and Young People Counsellors are all qualified to Diploma level or beyond, have substantial experience working with young people and staff are skilled in using a diverse range of therapeutic techniques. This allows for support to be individualised for each child and young person.

We pride ourselves on our robust safeguarding procedures to ensure that every child, young person and adult who accesses our services is protected and kept safe and further conduct annual, collaborative reviews of these policies.

Our free-to-access Children and Young People Projects within the Community

Through strong links with schools, CCGs and partner organisations, and the latest research, we know that a systemic, whole-school approach is needed to achieve the best outcomes for children. We continue to grow the provision of support with a more comprehensive package that will enable schools to become Mentally Healthy Schools. All services offered will encompass the needs of pupils, parents and professionals, offering different workshops, resources, supervision and therapy.

Evolve Project

Supporting care leavers to build resilience

Working with Pure Insight, we support 18-25 year olds whom have grown up in local authority care and now have left it with therapy to improve resilience and life chances.

Young people in care are four times more likely to experience mental health problems than the average young person.

Mental Health in Education (MHST)

Stockport Young People's Mental Health Support Team - Thrive in Education

Low level intervention in schools

In partnership with Stockport Council and CAMHS, we provide early intervention wellbeing support to pupils in schools as part of the Mental Health Support Teams. Our appointed School Wellbeing Workers provide pupils with a safe, confidential space to work on their emotional wellbeing using practical, low-level interventions to build confidence and resilience.

Navigator Project

Step-down support for children exiting CAMHS

In partnership with Early Break and Pennine Care, our appointed Navigator supports children, young people (aged 5-18) and their families who have accessed services in Stockport's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to provide step- down support.

Compass

Compass

Supporting young people experiencing difficulty around anxiety and depression

Working alongside a counsellor, young people work through an online programme through 6 -8 sessions.

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a talking therapy that provides a regular space for you to talk about difficult feelings. It can help you to deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel uncomfortable or sad.

What to Expect

After registering for an appointment, our appointments team will be in touch to arrange an initial assessment. A counsellor will meet you, work out if counselling is right for you and what you would like to get out of counselling.

Confidentiality

What happens in your counselling sessions is private to you and your counsellor. However, on rare occasions, your counsellor may need to share some information with others
